The short answer

SEO audit services find why a site does not rank or bring enquiries: technical health and indexing, speed, on-page basics, local signals, AI crawler access and conversion basics. Published prices run from $101 to $750 for most businesses to $500 to $5,000 for an agency audit. Ours starts free, and Audit & fix starts at $490 with the fixes included.

What the audit checks

Six areas, checked on every audit.

The same checks on every site, free or paid. Each group ends with how often we found the problem across 662 Orange County business websites.
01

Can Google reach, read and index every page?

Technical and indexing

A page that is not indexed cannot rank. We start with what Google sees and what it has stored.

  • HTTPS, one version of the domain, clean redirectshttp, www and non-www should all land on one address.
  • Indexing report in Search Console, page by pageWhich pages are indexed, which are excluded, and why.
  • Stray noindex tags and canonical conflictsA redesign often leaves a noindex tag on live pages.
  • XML sitemap and robots.txtThe sitemap lists only live pages, and robots.txt blocks nothing that should rank.
  • Broken links, 404s and server errorsDead ends waste crawl time and lose visitors.

ProofIn our study, 15% of the websites listed for these businesses are dead or return an error. Read the study

02

Does the page load fast on a phone?

Speed

We test on mobile, the way most local customers search, with Google PageSpeed Insights and field data where Google has it.

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)How long until the main content shows. Good is 2.5 seconds or less.
  • Interaction to Next Paint (INP) and layout shift (CLS)Whether taps respond and the page holds still while it loads.
  • Page weight and image sizesOversized photos are the most common fix.
  • Third-party scriptsChat widgets, trackers and builders that slow every page.

Proof79% of sites take more than 4 seconds to show their main content on a phone. Median: 8 s. Read the study

03

Does each page say what it is about?

On-page

Google and customers both need to know, in one line, which service and which area a page covers.

  • One H1 per page that names the serviceThe heading is the page in one line.
  • Title tag and meta description on every pageWithout them Google writes the snippet from the menu or footer.
  • One page per service and per main cityOne page that tries to rank for everything usually ranks for nothing.
  • Internal links between related pagesThey tell Google which pages matter most.
  • Image alt text and file namesFor accessibility and image search.

Proof22% have no H1 heading, and 20% have more than one. 25% have no meta description. Read the study

04

Do Google Maps and your site agree about you?

Local

For a local business the Business Profile often brings more calls than the website. We check both and how they connect.

  • Business Profile categories, services and service areaThe primary category decides which searches you can show up for.
  • Name, address and phone match the site exactlyMismatches make Google less sure who you are.
  • Website link with tracking on the profileSo calls and visits from Maps are counted, not guessed.
  • Reviews and your replies to themCustomers read them before they call.
  • LocalBusiness schema on the siteMarkup that tells machines who and where you are.

Proof42% have LocalBusiness schema, the markup that tells machines who and where you are. The other 58% leave Google and AI assistants to guess. Read the study

05

Can ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity read your site?

AI access

AI assistants can only cite a site their crawlers can fetch. Many sites block them without knowing.

  • robots.txt rules for GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-ExtendedWhether you allow them is your choice. It should be a choice, not an accident.
  • CDN and firewall responses to AI crawlersSecurity layers often refuse them even when robots.txt allows them.
  • Content present in the HTML, not only after JavaScriptMany crawlers do not run scripts.
  • Facts an assistant can quoteServices, areas, hours and prices written in plain text.

Proof14% refuse AI crawlers such as GPTBot or ClaudeBot at the firewall. Only 0.8% block AI crawlers in robots.txt. Read the study

06

Can a visitor become a lead?

Conversion

Rankings that do not bring calls are not the goal. We check the basics that turn a visit into an enquiry.

  • Tap-to-call link and a visible phone number on mobileA number that cannot be tapped is a lost call.
  • A quote form or booking on the pageFor visitors who will not call.
  • Analytics with form and call conversionsSo you know which page brings the leads.
  • Up-to-date details, including the footer yearAn old year reads as "is this business still open?"

Proof26% have no tap-to-call link on the homepage. 25% have no quote form or booking on the homepage. 39% run no analytics at all. Read the study
