SEO for Accountants

Where should SEO for an accounting firm start? With the site, before January.

In one paragraphSEO for accountants is the work that gets a CPA, bookkeeping or tax practice found when people search for one, in Google, the map pack and AI answers, then turns that visit into a call, form or booking. It covers a fast mobile site, a tap-to-call number, service and city pages written around real searches, schema that tells search engines and AI assistants what you do and where, and tracking.

Your referrals are not searching for you. Everyone else is. In January people type "cpa near me", "small business accountant" plus their city, and "tax preparer for self-employed", and they go to whoever answers. A referral will look past a weak site. A stranger will not.

Most accounting sites are not ready for that traffic. In September 2026 we checked the 14 accounting and tax offices listed in OpenStreetMap for Orange County. The sample is small, so treat it as a signal, not a census: 5 of the 14 websites were broken or gone, and of the 8 live sites only 3 were lead-ready, 4 had no tap-to-call link and 7 ran no analytics. It was the weakest group in our study.

Good accountant SEO fixes the basics before it writes a word: a site that loads, a number a phone can tap, a form or booking link, schema, and tracking that counts every call. Then come pages for the services and cities you want more work from. Start before January. Pages written in February go live after the people searching have already picked someone.

It should not include tax advice nobody checked, guaranteed rankings, or a report full of positions and no calls. Any page that touches tax rules goes to a CPA at your firm before it goes live.

What you get

What does our accounting SEO include?

Every engagement starts with the free audit and the items it shows are missing.
  1. 01

A site that works on a phone

We fix broken pages, slow loading and missing tap-to-call links first. A visitor who cannot load your site in tax season calls the next firm.

  2. 02

A form or booking link people use

A visitor in March wants to book a call, not hunt for your email. We add a short form or booking link and make sure it reaches you.

  3. 03

Pages for the searches that bring clients

Bita writes service and city pages around searches like "small business accountant", "bookkeeping services" and "tax preparer for self-employed". Your CPA reviews anything that touches tax rules.

  4. 04

Schema, Business Profile and AI access

Mohammad adds schema so search engines and AI assistants can read who you are, what you offer and where, completes your Google Business Profile, and removes firewall rules that turn AI crawlers away.

  5. 05

    Tracking that counts people

Calls, forms and bookings, counted from the first week. 7 of the 8 live accounting sites we checked counted nothing at all.

  6. 06

    Monthly work, month to month

From $690 a month: new pages, fixes and a one-page report. No contract term; cancel any time.

ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews

How does an accounting firm get named by ChatGPT and AI Overviews?

ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews can only name your firm if they can read your site. In our check, 3 of the 8 live accounting sites refused AI crawlers at the firewall, so those firms were invisible to the assistants before anyone asked a question.

Getting named starts with letting those crawlers in. Next, your services, cities and answers need to sit in the page text, schema should spell out what you do and where, and each page needs specific facts an assistant can quote: the services you offer, who you work with, and what a first meeting costs. The AI readiness sprint starts at $390. Nobody can promise an assistant will recommend you; a site it cannot read never will be.
