Small business SEO, explained
In one paragraphSmall business SEO is the work of being found by nearby customers who search for what you sell, on Google, in the map pack and in AI answers, and turning that visit into a call or form. For most small businesses, it means a complete Business Profile, one page per service, a fast mobile site, steady reviews, and tracking that shows enquiries.
A small business does not need what a national brand needs. You need a handful of pages to rank for a handful of searches in your area, and you need those pages to make the phone ring. Big content calendars and link campaigns are usually the wrong first spend.
It should not include: thousands of directory submissions, bought links, blog posts written for keywords no customer types, or a ranking report with no mention of calls. Those are the things that make cheap SEO expensive later.
Most of the gains on a small site come from fixing what already exists. In our study of 662 local business websites, four in ten missed a basic way to become a lead: a tappable phone number, a form, a mobile layout or HTTPS. No amount of SEO fixes a page that cannot be acted on.
And because the site and the SEO are one job, we do both. Web design and SEO from one team means the person who finds the problem is the person who ships the fix.

What you get
We read your Search Console, open your site on a phone, check your Business Profile and search for your services the way a customer would. You get the list of problems whether or not you hire us.
We fix titles, headings, internal links and the answers customers look for, on the pages Google already shows. The fastest gains for a small site usually come from what exists, not from 50 new blog posts.
Each thing you sell gets a page that names it, prices it where you can, and ends in a call or form. A single "Services" page with bullet points cannot rank for six different searches.
Categories, services, service area, photos, a review routine your staff will follow, and the same name, address and phone everywhere. In our test only 60% of businesses matched their map listing.
Indexing, schema, sitemaps and a site that loads fast on a phone. The median local site we tested took 8 seconds to show its main content on mobile.
Calls, form submissions and bookings counted as conversions, spam filtered, compared with the month before we started. Rankings are in the report; enquiries come first.
Affordable vs cheap
| Aspect | Under $300 a month | $690 a month (RankMeHi) | $2,500+ a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who does the work | Usually a reseller or automated package, rarely the same person twice. | The people named on this site: content, engineering, design. | An account manager plus a team, often with junior staff on the work. |
| Pages and content | Directory listings and generic blog posts. | Fixes and new service pages chosen from your Search Console data. | Content calendars, often more volume than a small site needs. |
| Website changes | Rarely. Recommendations only. | Shipped by us, on your site. | Usually, sometimes billed as development hours. |
| Reporting | Automated ranking reports. | Calls, forms and Search Console, side by side. | Dashboards with many metrics. |
| Contract | Often month to month. | Month to month, cancel any time. | Often 6 to 12 months. |
| Right for | Almost no one: the risk of spammy links outweighs the savings. | A small business that wants the site and SEO handled by one team. | A company with many locations or a national market. |
